What You Need To Know About College Visits and COVID-19: Part 1

In light of global and domestic concerns about COVID-19, many colleges and universities are taking action in hopes of slowing the virus’s spread. If you are planning college visits with your child in the next few weeks, here are a few preliminary steps you should take before you go.

SENIORS:

Many colleges are canceling Admitted Student Open Houses and have even limited campus tours.  University of Texas, Austin canceled their Explore UT scheduled for this Saturday, March 14, and Yale University has canceled all visits through April 15.

If you’re planning a visit, or multiple campus visits, make sure you check your email inbox regularlycheck admissions websites, and call ahead to ensure the event you plan to attend is still taking place.

JUNIORS:

Spring Travel: Do a Double-Check

Make time to call every school you plan to visit: While we always advise students to make contact ahead of time, it’s more important than ever with campuses all over the country transitioning to a temporary online-only format for college tours.

Consider canceling your trip: Although campus visits are an important part of the admissions process, many colleges are discouraging visits to do their part.  In an effort to simulate an on-campus experience during this time, colleges are offering dynamic, web-based virtual tours to students and families. Harvard University’s virtual tour is a wonderful example of how dynamic these online tours can be.

At Colledge we are focusing on how best to serve and support our students with alternate ways to connect with colleges online and move forward with their admissions decisions.
