During this uncertain time of COVID-19, I’d like to pause and focus our hearts and minds on our seniors. Highlighting some of the good work our students have done deserves a moment of celebration, especially this year. At Colledge, we start by meeting our students where they are and quickly develop a plan that works for them.
We helped quite a few students with early admission strategies this year, and it paid off. Our students were accepted to a wide range of colleges – Michelle and Selena are just two examples.
Stanford Bound Linguistics Student
Michelle attended a highly rigorous school and felt the pressure to do well. She was intimidated by the college process but took our advice to focus on finding best fit colleges with excellent linguistics programs. We helped Michelle apply to a linguistics summer program at Ohio State, and it had a tremendous impact. She connected with a faculty mentor through this program who ended up advocating for Michelle by writing an additional letter of recommendation.
When application season came around, Michelle’s school-based counselor discouraged her from applying to Stanford, and she struggled with the decision to apply. It’s easy for students to get confused during these uncertain times but we can help your child make the right decision for them.
With our encouragement, we guided Michelle to listen to herself, and our team kept her on track. Jessica, our team lead, helped her learn better ways to assert herself with her school-based counselor, I advised Michelle’s parents with a strategic timeline – to apply a few weeks earlier than early deadlines, and James, our essay specialist, worked with her to refine and polish all of her essays. We are happy to share that Michelle was accepted to Stanford in early December on her own terms!
NYU Bound: URBAN AND UNDECLARED
On a different note, Selena was ready to take the world by storm, but didn’t know where to begin. So much of what was driving her college list was the influence of her sister, a BU student who loved college. After listening to all of her deeper hopes and dreams for college, we helped Selena narrow down her areas of study to fashion design, advertising and architecture. Jeff, our team lead, and I discussed business, art, and liberal studies, and we recommended Selena apply to NYU’s Gallatin School for Independent Study. This program would allow her to pursue all of her options in college, without sacrificing any of her interests. Selena didn’t have to decide on a major, because we helped her find the exact program that would help her develop her interests further. She was accepted early to NYU’s Gallatin School class of 2024 and was thrilled!
Our Colledge students who applied under the early admission options (early action, early decision and restrictive early action) were accepted to more than 81% of their colleges. Stanford, Brown, Scripps College, U Penn, UT Austin, Boston University, SMU, and Vanderbilt are just a few saying yes to our students. And we are incredibly proud. Congratulations to our 2020 seniors!!
At Colledge, our team approach is our signature. Our students meet with us more often and gain valuable insights into admissions trends and likely outcomes. To learn more about how your child can make the most of their college planning starting now, click HERE.
