LIVE with Colledge | U of OR
Parents of seniors have been asking important questions about college essays. Questions like — Should my child write about COVID-19? When is the best time to work on essays for college? How will admission officers review essays differently this fall? — are just a few.
If you are a parent of a rising senior, don’t miss our free LIVE Session “Nailing the College Essay: Part 2” with Emily Carmichael, Assistant Director of Regional Recruitment for University of Oregon on July 15th, at 6:00 pm.
The truth is, there are many unknowns, but what we do know is how much essay writing can have an impact on admissions decisions. And we know that using summer months to stay ahead of the curve will be more important than ever.
Shelly is a great example of this.
As a student-athlete, Shelly was interested in pursuing engineering in college, and she knew she needed to start writing early. With over 20 essays to write, Shelly was overwhelmed when she came to us.
Kelsey, our Admissions Manager, advised Shelly to write about her love of Tony Stark (aka Iron Man), and to expand about how a dance injury led to her passion for mechanical engineering. Shelly quickly developed ideas for the Common Application & UC essays, while Lee Ann, her Essay Specialist, coached her on how to repurpose material for engineering supplements. We reverse-engineered a calendar of micro-deadlines according to her application due-dates, and her writing started to flow.
She showed her intelligence, vulnerability and persistence, through her writing – Shelly wrote her way into college!
Shelly found the freedom to write from the heart, and when fall came, she was ready. And it paid off – Shelly was accepted to Harvey Mudd, UT Austin, & Olin College of Engineering, and will be a member of Colorado School of Mines class of 2024.
Whether your child has started their college essays or doesn’t seem to have a clue as to where to begin, our experienced consultants will design a tailor-made essay writing plan that works for any student.
